the influence of the church
The birthing of the early church began amongst hostility, criticism and misunderstanding, the founder was dead and now His followers were accused of being drunk (Acts2v13)
Even so, being endowed with power from on high, it grew uncontrollably
In one accord they sat at the apostle’s feet to learn of the Saviour
Chapter 4 sees them pooling their resources and giving to those in need
As the Christian church has spread throughout the world so too has its caring nature
It has been a very long time since the church has cared for its own only though – Luke 6 v33 what credit is it if you do good only to those who do good to you-
The church of Jesus has many detractors and because of its huge size its faults are easily exposed
There are those who will minimize the positives and live to accentuate the failings
Easy to do when its faults are so well documented
Without the followers of Jesus the west would be in a very different place today, indeed the entire planet
Hospitals in the medieval days looked like the inside of churches with religious symbols and altars for patients to pray
Florence Nightingale, an Anglican who laid the foundations for professional nursing when she opened her nursing school in 1860 and in the doing turned the establishment on its head
The fight against slavery led by Thomas Clarkson & William Wilberforce in England were both dedicated Christians
Australian schools until the mid 1880s were funded by the government but run by churches
The list could be much longer but the page is not!
We are part of His Bride
Lets live up to His calling
Blessings
