Unhappy Endings

On Saturday Aaron, Lindsay, Gary and myself were busy at the front of the church restoring the footpath and garden beds after Mobile Mission Maintenance had installed new storm water drains. At the same time we put in concrete pads for the future boom gates with Alan Miller

coming by to set up his piping conduits. It was a thrill to see all this work completed in the one day
Later in the afternoon a gentleman who had been at the local pub, having parked in the church's car park, attempted to reverse out and in the doing so hit the church van twice. He would have continued to hit it if we hadn't intervened as he attempted to complete something like a three point turn!! He left refusing to give his details after which one of his mates decided he needed to come over and sort us out while others watched from the pub doors.
How could a day which had gone so well end like this, and not of our choosing
I still remember vividly that phone call from a friend to say my father had collapsed and would I ring the family doctor. I did just that and ran the 2 houses down to be with him as he lay on the grass. Others of the family gathered too.
By the time the doctor arrived the head of our family lay dead.
It was a Sunday, it had been a good day
But the end of that day will be remembered by my siblings and I as a bewildering time, where we were orphaned and left to fend for ourselves as 4 years earlier our mother had passed away
That day didn't turn out as we would have liked it too either
The sermon Alan Mc Arthur Docker listened to the evening he passed away was based around the scripture " I will never leave you nor forsake you" as found in Hebrew 13v5b and if I remember correctly Matthew 28v20 "I will be with you to the end"
Although he wasn't aware of it God was preparing him for the end of his time
We too can be assured that whatever our day delivers to us God has not been caught unawares and is ready and able to be our Helper in times of trouble
Blessings
