Under the influence
Elvis Presley was quite a phenomena in his time with his singing voice woo-ing many a person. He impacted fashions and hairstyles with that jet black hair raised at the front only to be swept back off his face. His songs are still sung today. Around the same time were the Beatles & the Rolling Stones and closer to home were the Easy Beats, Normie Rowe, Johnny O’Keefe, Billy Thorpe, The Seekers and of course the English born but Brisbane raised Bee Gees followed by Masters Apprentices & The Little River Band to name just some who burst onto the scene in those days We were easily influenced Do you remember that as a teenager? If they sang it, drank it or wore it, so did we Have you ever looked back at old photos and asked yourself, how could I have worn that and as for that hair style! We were under the influence, that’s why!! So we imitated others, probably more than we should have, even to the point of compromising God’s best for us The Scripture states for good reason “All we like sheep have gone astray…” As sheep have this habit of following after the one in front no matter where it goes. Have a look around, you will see humans do this too. See how armed robberies have taken on a life of their own over the last year in the south of Brisbane Really at the end of the day there is only one person worthy of imitation He is Mentor, Roll Model, Hero He can be trusted and is worthy of the deepest of respect He is Inspirational He is Jesus Blessings Bruce Docker |
