The Rise and Fall
Democracy, like any governing system has its flaws and weaknesses
Greece is a painful example
Democracy had its birthplace in Athens, Greece in and around 510BC and even though it was squashed by conquering armies, including Rome, the flame of freedom was never totally extinguished and reignited across various cities within Europe.
Thus to the Greek we owe a debt of appreciation
Due to democracy, no tyrant can rule over the people
However many democratic countries are in crisis, particularly in Europe due in part to bad management of finances – living off borrowed money. More unrest is yet to come I fear due to attempts to reign in debt. America has a huge debt crisis which some are saying is un-repayable!
In all the discussions made public on how to fix things no mention is made of God. Is He so irrelevant to the solving of problems at a national and international level? Surely a monetary crisis of this proportion is the very thing which should send all to God in open and very public prayer, starting with our leaders
There is a tyrant crushing the lives of many people today some self inflicted others are not.
That tyrant is huge debt and even larger credit interest rates and where is the call to live within our means as countries and individual citizens. Where is the call back to godly and wise principles?
Democracy means the rule of the people
The original Greek experience was direct democracy (citizens voted directly on legislation)
Australia has representative democracy (citizens vote MPs in to make decisions for us)
Theocracy is where God has the final say
And right now that seems like a pretty good option
No flaws and weaknesses in listening to Him
Let’s pray
Blessings
